blur is a British alternative rock band, founded in London in 1989 as Seymour, whose lead singer and guitarist has been friends since childhood. They met Alex James in 1988 while studying at Goldsmiths College in London. The band debuted in the summer of 1989. In May 1989, Food records' boss and talent agent saw them perform and decided to sign the band to their label, but one of the biggest problems was that the label didn't like the name Seymour. So, the record company helped them make a list of the group names they could use, and wanted them to choose a new group name from it. They chose blur from the list, and Food records signed the band in 1990.
