Steve Lewis, the bakery's creator, bought what he thought was an old 1898 cookbook in his never-ending search for baking ideas. Steve chose the name Gideon's Bakehouse to honor the wishes of the child whose name was written at the back of the book: "Gideon." Gideon's shelves are lined with odd pieces of art, old books, and curious Victorian antiquities, all of which pay homage to the name's origins. With just one employee (sorry, Megan) and a budget of $800, Gideon's Bakehouse opened its first physical location in Central Florida's East End Market in June 2016. That tiny bakery of 286 square feet was hailed as the Best Cookies in Orlando, Florida, the United States, and the World within weeks of opening by numerous publications, including Delish, Sports Illustrated, and the New York Times.
