Heritage Theatre Utah, a nonprofit community theater based in Brigham City, celebrates its 50th anniversary. Heritage Theatre Utah's history dates back to 1890, when it was used as the Perry Ward for nearly 80 years as part of the LDS Church. In 1969, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Golden Ear, the local Memorial committee supported the creation of an original musical. The show's success led to the founding of the Brigham City Community Theatre in 1970. As the volunteer team expanded, the theater put on several shows at high schools and other venues. By 1975, the theater needed a permanent home, and a fundraising campaign was launched to purchase the vacant LDS church building south of Brigham City.
