Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival's mission is to enrich the community by providing the residents of the Greater Lake Tahoe region and visitors from all over the world with the highest quality theater and cultural productions. During the performances from 1972 to 1974, Shakespeare performed on the lawn in front of the Elman Building until maintenance issues made the venue unsuitable for further outdoor theater performances. Two to three years later, with the support of the North Tahoe Art Committee, the performance was transferred to Skylandia Park in Tahoe City, where the number of spectators steadily increased beyond the capacity of the parking lot and sought another new home.
