This is a story about how Arduino inspired him to invent Opensprinkler, an open source, web-based sprinkler controller. When he was a child, he was passionate about making electronic circuits. He spent hours studying circuit diagrams and making simple circuits, such as single-transistor radios, electronic chirpers, and voice-activated switches. Most of the electronic parts he used at that time were picked up from discarded circuit boards. Disassembling used circuits, learning to solder, and etching PCBs-these are the happiest times of his childhood. As a professor of computer science at Massachusetts State University UMass Amherst, he sees it as an inspiring tool for research and teaching. Together with his students, Opensprinkler built a camera remote control for taking time-lapse photos, and a controller for tracking the object's PTZ camera in real time.
