SISTERS OF CHARITY OF SAINT ELIZABETH originated through the efforts of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, inspired by the works of Saint Vincent de Paul and Saint Louise de Marillac, in Emmitsburg, Maryland, in 1809. Building on this foundation, Mother Mary Xavier Mehegan established the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth in New Jersey in 1859. Presently, the SISTERS OF CHARITY OF SAINT ELIZABETH are active in various ministries including education, healthcare, social justice, ecological stewardship, pastoral care, and social services across 10 dioceses in the United States, as well as in El Salvador and Haiti.
