In 1975, Steppenwolf Theatre set up a non-profit organization and produced a drama "The Impact of Gamma Ray on Human Beings on the Moon" that summer. In 1980, the company moved from Highland Park to Chicago City, transforming itself into a 134-seat theater in the center of jane Adams and expanding its troupe. In the 1980s, the company continued to expand and its dramas continued to receive domestic and international attention. In 1991 Stepan Wolff built the present theatre at 1650 North Halsted Street in Chicago. Steppenwolf Theatre has now grown into a company with 49 ensemble members whose strengths include performance, director, script creation and text adaptation. As a professional drama company, it has entered its fifth decade and has won unprecedented national and international recognition, including a series of Tony Awards and the National Medal of Arts.
