In the Washington, DC area, TBC Racing is a rowing club for Junior and Open athletes that competes heavily. Their competitive rowing program began in 1994 when a dedicated group of Junior Men wanted a place to row year-round in addition to their high school-based programs. It developed out of the Thompson Boat Center's competitive programs. The program grew to include Junior Women in the 1990s and has continued to do so. In 1999, the club was designated a them Rowing Development Camp. Open Men and Women were added to the competitive options at the beginning of the 2000s. Over the course of its history, the program has competed under Washington Area Rowing, Water Street Rowing, and, most recently, TBC Racing since 2017, when they fully separated from the Thompson Boat Center operationally.
